Cette chanson est composée durant les sessions pour l'album Axis: Bold As Love, 8 mois plus tôt. Elle est enregistré le lendemain d'un concert de charité donné par Jimi et Jeff Beck au profit du réaménagement du centre new-yorkais (quartiers pauvres). Mitch et Noel sont en vacances à Majorque. Noel doit revenir exprès à New-York pour enregistrer quelques lignes de basses, mais il déclarera plus tard que Jimi n'a pas gardé cet enregistrement et qu'il a lui même joué la basse. Ils ne travaillent plus vraiment ensemble...

Kramer a rajouté du phasing sur la piste de batterie de Mitch. De plus, elle est enregistrée à vitesse normale puis ralentie sur la chanson.
Quand Jimi écoute pour la première fois la chanson enregistrée, il s'écrie "Je peux chanter, je peux chanter !!!"... et oui, lui qui se croyait incapable de chanter correctement...
